The federal government's long-awaited intergenerational report will be made public next week.
"It is an exciting document," Treasurer Joe Hockey told ABC radio on Thursday, adding that it would give Australians hope for longer lives with a better quality of life.
It would also illustrate the government had come some way in addressing the structural problems facing the budget, he said.
The report, required to be published every five years, assesses the long-term sustainability of government policies over the next 40 years, taking account of the financial implications of demographic change.
It will be released next Thursday.
