Govt to renew push to curb union power

The federal government is set to push ahead with its workplace reforms in the wake of the proposed merger of the construction and maritime unions.

The federal government is set to renew its push for tougher workplace laws following the proposed merger of the construction and maritime unions.

Employment Minister Michaelia Cash told The Australian on Monday the proposal emphasised the need to restore the Australian Building and Construction Commission to prevent projects being delayed and stop unlawful practices.

The Senate blocked the re-establishment of the ABCC in August.
