Govt to widen support for Aussie exporters

Proposed legislation will give more Australian businesses access to loans to help export their products and services.

More Australian businesses trying to take their products or services global may soon be able to access extra government support.

A bill put to parliament on Wednesday will expand the powers of the Export Finance and Insurance Corporation to allow direct lending to a wider range of small to medium-sized enterprises.

"More Australian SME services companies, such as providers of information technology, consulting, education and tourism providers, will now be able to access finance to export and seize the opportunities replete in the global marketplace," Trade Minister Steven Ciobo told parliament.
