The coalition's support has returned to pre-budget levels, with a new Newspoll showing the government's primary vote at 41 per cent.

Support had plummeted to as low as 35 per cent after the government laid out its budget in May, and while its rating still remains below the election result of 45.6 per cent, the prime minister's recent handling of national security matters appears to have won back voters.

According to the Newspoll, conducted at the weekend for The Australian, Tony Abbott's personal satisfaction rating also rose, jumping six points to its highest level since November.

Meanwhile, Labor has dropped one point to 34 per cent, and the Greens lost three points, landing the party on 11 per cent.

Labor continues to lead the coalition 51 per cent to 49 per cent on a two-party-preferred basis.
