In-form back-rower David Gower has re-signed with Parramatta until the end of the 2016 NRL season.

The former Wests Tigers, St George Illawarra and Manly forward has been a key figure in the resurgence of the Eels this season under new coach Brad Arthur and has been rewarded with a new two-year deal.

"David is hard-working on the field and committed to his training, and sets a great example for the rest of our side, particularly our younger forwards," Arthur said in a club statement.

"He's really come into his own as a player this year, and I'm looking forward to seeing him continue to develop over the next two seasons."

After debuting for the Eels in round three, 28-year-old Gower has played every game since and faces one of his old clubs - the Sea Eagles - on Friday night.

A veteran of 57 NRL games, Gower has bounced back after being cut by Manly at the end of last season.

He was a part of their grand final side, but managed only 10 minutes in the 26-18 loss to the Sydney Roosters.

"I always felt I had the ability to play NRL week to week and I'm very grateful that Brad's showed the faith in me not just to play me week to week but to reward me with another two years," Gower said.

"We've got a great group of young kids coming through and there's a little bit of experience littered in as well, and I just think it's a club going forward for at least the next two years while I'll be here.

"For me personally, this year's not over for us yet, we've got a big game on Friday night and then two more after that and hopefully into September."

Parramatta can work their way into the top eight with a win at home over premiership frontrunners Manly if other results fall their way over the weekend.
