Some university graduates owe the federal government six-figure debts, with one racking up a bill of more than $462,000.

Education Minister Simon Birmingham is using the analysis, released on Wednesday, to urge the Senate crossbench to accept reforms which will lower the repayment threshold for student loans.

Figures also shows an ACT student owes $437,057 to the taxpayer, with another in Victoria racking up a debt of $374,158.
