Robin Haase saw his long run of success at the Kitzbuehel Cup come to an end on Friday when he was knocked out of this year's event at the semi-final stage.
The Dutchman won the tournament in Austria in each of the last two years, but saw his chances of making it three in a row ended in a 7-6 (7-0) 3-6 6-4 defeat to Spanish eighth seed Marcel Granollers after almost two and a half hours on court.
It was revenge for Granollers, who had fallen to Haase in the quarter-finals in Gstaad last week.
Haase went on to lose the final in Switzerland to Russia's Mikhail Youzhny.
Granollers will now face Argentina's Juan Monaco in the final after the second seed beat another Spaniard, Albert Montanes, in the other semi-final.
Monaco, ranked 31st in the world, won 7-6 (7-2) 7-5 to keep alive his hopes of claiming a second title of the year to go with that won on clay in Duesseldorf, Germany.
