Graves desecrated in Sydney cemetery

Gravestones were smashed and pushed over when more than 70 graves were vandalised in Sydney's Rookwood cemetery.

More than 70 gravestones have been desecrated at the Rookwood cemetery in Sydney.

Vandals entered the cemetery between 9pm on Tuesday and 6am on Wednesday and damaged 76 gravestones, several of which were pushed over or smashed, police said.

An investigation has begun into how those responsible gained access to the site and police have appealed for anyone with information to contact them.
