Green suffers final round blues in Classic

Overnight leader Hannah Green has endured a tough final round at the Fuccillo Classic with the Australian rookie finishing in a tie for sixth.

Overnight leader Hannah Green has endured a tough final round at the Fuccillo Classic to finish sixth, missing a great opportunity to skyrocket up the Volvik money list.

The Australian rookie shot 73 on Sunday to finish three shots behind Denmark's Nanna Koerstz Madsen, who clinched the $18,750 top prize in the Symetra Tour tournament.

Madsen's victory catapulted her to the top of the money list and is now just one win away from gaining an automatic LPGA Tour card.

With one victory to her name this season, at the Sara Bay Classic in April, Green was poised after shooting opening rounds of 67 and 68 - aware three wins in a season would give her automatic promotion to the LPGA Tour.

But after a bright start with birdie on the second hole, the 20-year-old from Perth bogeyed the third, 13th and 17th for a disappointing two-over 73 and a tie for sixth.

She earned $4,069 and took her earnings to $28,937, leaving her in sixth position on the money list with the top 10 qualifying for the 2018 LPGA Tour.

Madsen, who started five shots behind Green, took advantage of Daniela Iacobelli's closing double bogey for the one-shot win at Capital Hills over Iacobelli and Kim Welch.

"It came out of nowhere," Koerstz Madsen said. "When I got up this morning, I was thinking that a top-five finish would be good this week because there were a lot of people ahead of me and tied with me."

"This means a lot because I have really been focusing on this tour this year and my main goal is to reach the LPGA and that is the only thing I'm focusing on," Koerstz Madsen said.
