Greens back bid to split income tax cuts

The Greens are backing attempts to split the government's income tax cut plans, but will vote against any final bill regardless of the amendments.

The Australian Greens will support attempts to split the government's income tax cuts, but will vote against them regardless of whether the bill is amended.

Labor is aiming to split the three stages of the coalition's income tax plan, because it supports the first stage and part of the second stage, but not the rest.

The Greens party room met on Tuesday and agreed to vote with Labor to split the bill up because it makes it a better piece of legislation.

But even if the amendments get through, the Greens will not support them at the final vote, because they fundamentally oppose the unfairness of the income tax cuts.
