The Greens have renewed calls for an independent inquiry into the death of an indigenous man in Adelaide's Yatala prison.
Greens MP Tammy Franks told a protest on the steps of parliament house on Friday that there were too many questions surrounding the death of Wayne Fella Morrison.
"I want to know why a child has been left without a father, I want to know why there's a mother without a son and a sister without her brother," she said.
"I want to know why he was in Yatala when he had never been in prison before and had never been convicted of a crime."
Mr Franks said in the absence of an independent investigation the Greens would push for a parliamentary inquiry.
Mr Morrison, 29, died in hospital after being involved in a violent altercation with prison guards in September.
Five guards also suffered injuries, including facial fractures in the incident.
The dead man's family said nothing could bring him back but an apology from authorities would acknowledge his death in custody as an issue.
They also wanted any CCTV footage of the incident released.
"We actually haven't seen any CCTV footage or haven't had confirmation that that exists at the moment or who has it," Mr Morrison's sister Latoya Rule said.
In a show of support for Mr Morrison and for other indigenous people who had died or been hurt while in custody, the protest also heard from Kirra Voller, the sister of Dylan Voller, whose treatment in the NT's Don Dale Youth Detention Centre sparked a royal commission.
She said she found it scary that authorities expected her brother to give evidence to the royal commission when he was still being held in custody.
"They expect him to feel safe about that," she said.
