Greens call for SA govt to use Aust steel

All SA government building projects would need to use locally-sourced steel under new laws proposed by the Greens.

Australian steel would need to be used in all South Australian government construction projects under new laws proposed by the Greens.

SA Greens MP Mark Parnell says the laws are aimed at strengthening the local steel industry, particularly in areas such as Whyalla where the Arrium steelworks went into administration earlier this year.

The proposed bill will be discussed in state parliament on Wednesday, with a final vote expected on November 16.
