The Greens say they won't back changes to the way risk thresholds are assessed for asylum seekers.

Australian Greens Immigration spokeswoman Sarah Hanson-Young says she'll be working hard to ensure the new Senate which sits on July 7 won't back changes to the way risk thresholds are assessed for asylum seekers.

Asylum seekers will be forced to prove they are more likely than not to be killed and tortured under tough new rules governing the way people seeking protection are assessed.

If the the laws introduced by Scott Morrison to federal parliament are passed asylum seekers will need to be more than 50 percent at risk before their cases will be decided.

They also face having a protection visa refused if they don't have the documents to prove their nationality.

Other changes would require applicants to establish their reasons for claiming refugee status at the start of the process and not wait until the review stage to present evidence.

Senator Hanson-Young told Amanda Cavill she'll be speaking to all the cross bench parties starting with the Palmer United Party.
