Greens stalwart Crossley dies

Senior Greens members have paid tribute to Louise Crossley, who died on Thursday after a career helping establish the party in Australia and globally.

Tasmanian scientist, author, environmentalist and community leader Louise Crossley has died.

A joint statement from former Australian Greens leaders Bob Brown and Christine Milne said Dr Crossley died on Thursday after a career which included working at Sydney's Powerhouse Museum, the Australian Antarctic Division, and helping with the establishment of the Global Greens and the national party.

"She was a leader, a great traveller, and a person who made things happen ... she was the very first convener of the Tasmanian Greens, stood as the Greens Senate candidate in 1998 and also served as one of the first conveners of the Australian Greens," Senator Milne said.
