Greens stand firm on fuel indexation

The Greens continue to reject the re-indexation of the fuel excise while the revenue it raises is linked to road funding.

The Greens will continue to oppose indexation of the fuel excise despite a change of leaders.

New leader Richard Di Natale has revealed he told Prime Minister Tony Abbott two weeks ago that the minor party could not support the measure while the revenue raised was linked to road funding because it would not encourage a behavioural change among motorists.

"If there is no change to the policy ... then we won't support it," a Greens spokesman told reporters in Canberra on Monday.
