Greens will lead where govt failed: Milne

The Greens say they will lead on global warming where the government has failed.

Australian Greens leader Christine Milne says people dismayed by parliament's dumping of the carbon tax shouldn't despair.

Abolition of the carbon tax, introduced by Labor with backing from the Greens in 2012, would be a a short-lived moment for the Abbott government, she told reporters in Canberra on Thursday.

"It is a monumental blunder for this nation under a climate-denying prime minister."

The Greens would lead where Mr Abbott had failed, she said.

"Global warming is not going away, it's accelerating," Senator Milne said, vowing to work on new climate action legislation and bring it to parliament.
