Australian golfer Matthew Griffin has birdied the 18th hole in the final round of the New Zealand Open in Queenstown to steal a one-shot win over Japan's Hideto Tanihara.
Tanihara held a two-shot lead going into Sunday after a blistering third-round 63, one shot off the course record at The Hills.
But going into the final hole with a one-stroke lead, he first found the rough, then a greenside bunker to be left with a 20-foot putt for par.
He came close but but couldn't find the cup, leaving Griffin to drain a simple four-foot birdie putt to seal the win.
Griffin is the fifth successive Australian winner of the $NZ1.05 million ($A940,500) tournament, which is a tier-one event on the Australasian Tour and has a partnership with the Japan Golf Tour.
