Emiliano Grillo will take a four-stroke lead into the weekend after shooting a four-under par 68 at the Indian Open, but will be wary of local hope Shubhankar Sharma, who posted a new course record.
Argentine Grillo carded five birdies and a bogey, lowering his total to 11-under 133 for the tournament at Gurgaon's DLF Golf and Country Club and looked set to take a commanding lead into round three.
But Race to Dubai Rankings leader Sharma, who three days ago received a special invitation to play at the Masters, made a superb charge with an eight-under 64 - the best round of the day.
The 21-year-old sunk nine birdies, including six on the last nine holes with his only bogey coming on the par-four seventh.
Sharma, who was five over after his first nine holes on Thursday, said: "If you told me I would be seven under par going into the weekend after being five over par on my opening nine holes yesterday, I would just have laughed.
"To be able to bounce back is really important, I knew I was playing well and I had to push myself a little."
Spaniard Pablo Larrazabal (71) and England's Andrew Johnston (66) were tied for third at six-under, one stroke behind Sharma.
Swede Jens Dantorp, England's Matt Wallace, South African Keith Horne and Thai Panuphol Pittayarat were at five under, a shot clear of a group including France's Sebastien Gros, Dutchman Joost Luiten and American Paul Peterson.
Australia's Wade Ormsby shot a second-round 72 to lie tied 25th on one-under, with compatriot David Gleeson two shots back.
