Groth through to second round in Miami

Sam Groth, without a win on the ATP Tour since the Australian Open, beat Victor Estrella Burgos in straight sets in the opening round of the Miami Masters.

Sam Groth has won just his second match of 2016, steamrolling Victor Estrella Burgos in straight sets in the opening round of the Miami Masters.

The Australian sent down 10 aces in crushing the 35-year-old world No.66 6-3 6-2 in little over hour on court, and will play Austrian Dominic Thiem in the second round.

With most big names enjoying first round byes, other winners on Wednesday included Fernando Verdasco in straight sets over Gilles Muller and Mikhail Youzhny, who beat Ernests Gulbis 6-4 6-2.
