Sydneysiders have shared jokes about growing up in the city using the hashtag, #growingupsydney.

The hashtag was the number-one-trending topic in Australia this afternoon, with some of the most tweeted about topics including public transport, beaches and the natural environment.

One Twitter user even joked about not growing up in Sydney but claiming it anyway.

"Saying you were from 'near Sydney' #GrowingUpSydney but actually #growingupwollongong," she wrote.
