Greater Western Sydney coach Leon Cameron wants his AFL side to lower their eyes as they seek to adjust to a new-look forward line minus spearhead Jeremy Cameron.
GWS rocketed back into the top eight for the first time since early May with an 11-point win over Hawthorn at Spotless Stadium on Saturday night.
The Giants booted 5.3 in what was their most potent first quarter of the year but then struggled at times to convert midfield dominance into scoreboard pressure.
Part of it was inaccurate goal-kicking, with Jon Patton the worst offender until the key forward kicked the sealer late in the final quarter.
But the Giants' forward entries were also a factor, with players often ignoring better options and bombing the ball long to big men Patton, Rory Lobb and Harry Himmelberg.
"Hopefully that forward line with Lobb, Patton and Himmelberg, it can cause some headaches over the coming weeks," Cameron told reporters.
"We thought we could stretch them (with three talls).
"At times we did. We probably went a little bit too long at times and needed to lower our eyes.
"Because we've got some other weapons there, we've got some speed.
"We've got to find that balance of uncontested marks inside 50 - not just kicking it to 15 metres out from goal."
Cameron admitted his side's haul of 1.8 in the second term was "disappointing and frustrating".
"Our first half, other than the scoreboard, was probably some of the best footy we've played all year. We just needed to capitalise," he said.
The clash with Hawthorn was the first of five games that Cameron will miss through suspension.
The Giants' premiership credentials will now be put to the test when they face West Coast in Perth, Richmond at home then Port Adelaide away.
"We know we've got huge challenges," Cameron said.
"Every game for us gets bigger and bigger.
"We've strung together four wins in a row now. We now come up against a really good side in the Eagles on their home ground."
