Greater Western Sydney AFL coach Leon Cameron agrees with the critics that his forwards need to apply more defensive pressure.

Offensively, the Giants boast one of the more potent goalscoring forward combinations in the competition, possessing a formidable trio of talls in Jeremy Cameron, Jon Patton and Rory Lobb.

They have a classy collection of small to medium-sized goalsneaks including Toby Greene, Steve Johnson and Devon Smith and handy forward role players in Sam Reid, Matt De Boer and Daniel Lloyd.

However, one recurring criticism has been that the Giants forward unit don't collectively exert enough pressure on opposing defenders.

Cameron says that while his forwards are getting better in that area there is room for improvement and it is a fair call.

"I think that's warranted," Cameron said.

"I think that's a bit up and down, that's an area that we need to get better at, absolutely, we acknowledge that.

"Sometimes we've had some really disappointing moments when it goes into our forward half and it comes out a little bit too easy.

"But equally I think our guys are constantly working at it, obviously Toby.

"Matt De Boer is obviously really good in that area, Sam Reid provides us an option to do that."

The coach singled out his namesake as one forward whose defensive prowess has improved this year.

"What you probably don't see is his off the ball defence," he said of Jeremy Cameron.

"He's regularly helping out our side on the fat side of the ground and pushing back and helping our defence when he needs to."

Greene revealed earlier this week the Giants regular forwards were now part of a group called the 'Wolfpack', a concept approved of by their coach.

"It's such a stressful environment, AFL footy, I actually like some of our players seeing the lighter side," Leon Cameron said.

"I think you've still got to acknowledge the game is really professional but have a little bit of fun like Toby likes to."
