GWS rebounding defender Zac Williams could be rushed back for the injury-hit AFL club's final game of the regular season.

Williams is yet to play an AFL game this year, having ruptured his achilles during pre-season training.

The 23-year-old returned during Saturday's NEAFL curtain-raiser at Spotless Stadium, comfortably exceeding the expectations of coach Leon Cameron and medical staff.

Cameron is likely to make at least one change for Sunday's MCG match against Melbourne, with Ryan Griffen (hamstring) and Phil Davis (hip) both hurt in the Giants' 20-point loss to Sydney.

The original plan was for Williams to play a second game in the reserves but it may possibly change.

"Is it too early? I'm not 100 per cent sure. I'll probably sleep on it for the next three or four days," Cameron told reporters.

"Realistically he probably needs another run in the NEAFL but footy is a funny game. Sometimes you have to be bold and we'll look at it during the week.

"He's obviously a terrific player ... and we were a little bit surprised at how well he went today."

Williams showed few signs of rust in his comeback despite the extended layoff, helping himself to 30 disposals and showing good pace.

"There were a few nerves. Last night I couldn't sleep," he told the club website.

"It was just to get back and run around .. I'm just happy I got through the game.

"I felt a bit lost early days but once I got into the game it just flowed.

"The last 10 minutes I cramped up a little bit but that's to be expected."

Cameron will make some tough selection calls in the next couple of weeks.

Brett Deledio (calf) is hoping to return in week one of the finals while Cameron will be keen to recall hamstrung quartet Toby Greene, Matt de Boer, Sam Taylor and Sam Reid as soon as possible.
