GWS re-sign Patton for two more years

The Greater Western Sydney Giants have re-signed power forward Jonathan Patton until the end of the 2017 AFL season.

Greater Western Sydney has extended the contract of luckless big man Jonathan Patton by another two years.

The club re-signed the 2011 No.1 draft pick until the end of the 2017 AFL season.

Patton, who had been contracted until the end of 2015, will have his second knee reconstruction next week after going down in the side's win over Melbourne on Sunday.

The 21-year-old power forward has been restricted to just 29 matches in his three seasons at the expansion club due to a series of knee and shoulder problems.

The club on Friday tweeted that it would announce on Saturday the Giants had re-signed Patton for an additional two seasons.

Earlier in the week, Patton said he was committed to fighting back from his injury and being a long-term player for the club.

"I now need to move on and deal with this situation. After all, this is only a nine to 10-month rehab," he said.

"There are people out there fighting for their lives and going through a lot tougher things than I am ... I will get my surgery done early next week and recover to the best of my ability to make sure I am there with my teammates for the next 10 years."
