GWS Giants key forward Jon Patton is hoping to be back by round ten of next year, after making a good start to his rehab following a third knee reconstruction.

The Giants foundation player suffered the injury to his left knee in training in early July.

Patton's two previous two reconstructions were to his right knee.

"The rehab has gone really well so far. About six, seven weeks post-op and obviously still can't do too much," Patton said before Saturday's elimination final derby against Sydney at the SCG.

"But it''s good to actually walk around when you're off your feet for four weeks.

"You actually take for granted how good walking is, so that's all going well and fine.

"Hopefully I should be back by at least the mid-point next year, hopefully round ten.'

Patton couldn't afford to get too depressed about missing out on Saturday's game for fear of upsetting one of his housemates and a key teammate.

"I woke up this morning and obviously had to put on a good mood because I live with (GWS midfielder) Steve Coniglio, so I didn't want to bring his positivity down,' Patton said.
