Half support tax on sugary drinks: poll

More than 50 per cent of voters surveyed in the latest Essential poll would support a tax on sugary drinks.

More than half of Australians surveyed would support a tax on sugary drinks, new polling shows.

Out of the 1000 people asked in the Essential poll released on Tuesday, 53 per cent supported the idea compared to 38 per cent opposed.

Greens voters were the strongest backers of the proposal.
