Rio Olympics semi-finalist Linden Hall has effectively booked her spot in the 1500m for August's world athletics championships in London.

The 25-year-old Australian finished 12th in four minutes 07.37 seconds in a stacked race at the Prefontaine Classic in Oregon on Saturday (Sunday AEST).

The time was 13 hundredths of a second inside the qualifying standard.

"I'm really happy to post the time and tick the box off the list," Hall said.

"It's a relief to get the time I needed.

"I was putting a bit of pressure on myself to try and do a time trial in Australia, which didn't get me the time.

"But now I've got it I can just go out there and race and let it happen without overthinking it from now on leading into London."

It was Hall's fastest time since the Rio Games where she just missed a spot in the final.

Rio Olympics gold medallist Faith Kipyegon from Kenya claimed the win in Eugene in 3:59.67.

Patrick Tiernan moved to fourth on the Australian alltime list with a big personal best of 13:13.44 in a 5000m race won by British superstar Mo Farah.

The only Australians to have run quicker over the distance are Craig Mottram, Collis Birmingham and Ben St Lawrence.

Tiernan's time bettered the world championships qualifying mark.

He has already been selected to contest the 10,000m at the August 4-13 world titles in London.

Ryan Gregson looked set for a fast time in the mile, before suffering a setback with 550 metres to run.

Djibouti's Ayanleh Souleiman tripped over, forcing Gregson to hurdle him and lose rhythm.

Kenyan Ronald Kwemoi's winning time of 3:49.04 was the fastest in the world this year, with Gregson finishing 11th in 3:56.90.

In Friday action at the Prefontaine Classic, Australian Madeline Hills bettered the world championships mark with a time of 15:15.18 in a loaded women's 5000m.

The in-form Hills also has a 10,000m qualifier, having smashed her PB earlier this month.
