Pauline Hanson's chief of staff James Ashby has shrugged off speculation of a "bombshell" about to drop on the One Nation staffer.

Crossbench senator Derryn Hinch ignited the controversy on Tuesday morning by hinting about an unknown pending event when he spoke to Neil Mitchell on 3AW radio.

"I've heard I'm getting sacked today," Mr Ashby told reporters jokingly, after having lunch at Parliament House.

Asked about Senator Hinch's comments, he said: "I'm unaware. I have heard Senator Hinch has had some comments, I'm unsure what it's about."

Senator Hinch later on Tuesday issued a statement saying he understood Mr Mitchell's program had received a similar tip-off from a different source.

He denied reports he was going to raise the matter in the Senate during the adjournment debate on Tuesday night.

"We await developments," he said.
