Hard yakka is the key to snapping Parramatta's worrying three-game NRL losing streak, according to coach Brad Arthur.

The Eels slumped to their third-straight defeat in Saturday's clash with Canberra at GIO Stadium, a venue where they have not won since 2006.

With 36 per cent of possession in the first half Parramatta completed seven of their 12 sets and went to the break with a 16-point deficit.

Despite mounting a comeback in the second period, it proved a mountain to high for the Eels to climb, with the Raiders running out winners 30-18.

While disappointed by the result, Arthur couldn't fault the players' effort.

"We've just got to keep working hard," Arthur said.

"I'd be devastated if I was saying that we rolled over and we didn't play tough and they're not trying because they're trying hard."

Parramatta will aim to get their season back on track against the Warriors in New Zealand next week before facing Wests Tigers and Penrith.

The Eels faced a torrid 2016 off the field, with the club's point deduction over the salary cap scandal robbing them of a chance to play finals despite finishing with 13 wins.

But at no stage did they lose four matches on the trot.

"Sometimes you can try too hard to make things happen," Arthur said.

"We've just got to be patient and things will come for us."

Having kicked off the season with back-to-back wins to give them their best NRL start since 1999, Parramatta have fallen away with the Raiders loss coming on the back of defeats to Cronulla and Gold Coast.

"We scored a really good try and played some really good footy 20 minutes into the game where we hadn't had a lot of football," Arthur said.

"We can't play good in patches and we've done that against Cronulla, we've done that against Gold Coast."
