Hardwick blasts AFL score review system

The AFL's controversial video review system is again in the spotlight after a couple of incidents on Sunday at the MCG.

Richmond coach Damien Hardwick has again blasted the AFL's score review system after more controversy on Sunday at the MCG.

Two video reviews during the Tigers' 43-point win over Collingwood left fans confused and angry.

The first of them certainly infuriated Hardwick.

In the second term, Richmond forward snapped at goal and Collingwood defender Lynden Dunn tried to touch the ball through.

Video shown on the MCG screens clearly showed that Dunn had touched the ball too late.

But the score was ruled a behind on review and Caddy said post-match that it was touched off his boot.

Still, Hardwick was left bemused as to why it was not ruled a goal.

In the last quarter, a goal to Richmond forward Jack Riewoldt was disallowed on video review.

Hardwick wants the whole video system simplified.

"I couldn't see how you would overturn it," Hardwick said of the Caddy score.

"My theory is let the goal umpire make the decision - the all goes back to the centre bounce. If they can decide in that time that it's touched, then change it.

"Even the second one with Jack, it's ... why are we waiting around for something that's obviously taking so long to make a decision on? Just throw it up.

"We're looking at fingernails, for god's sake. I can't understand it."

Hardwick added it was frustrating in the coaches' box because they are not seeing all the replay footage on their TV screens.

In Richmond's round-three win over Hawthorn, a goal was awarded to the Tigers on review when clearly Hawks defender Jack Gunston had touched the ball last.

The umpires on the ground moved quickly to fix the bizarre mistake.

But Collingwood coach Nathan Buckley wondered whether a perfect system is possible.

"We all want to get the decision right - everyone in the spotlight is paranoid about making blues. No one's perfect," Buckley said.

"Would you accept 95 per cent accuracy?

"Because you're going to get that without the goal review. And I don't know if we're getting 100 even with it."
