Harrington loses US PGA tour card

ree-time major champion Padraig Harrington has lost his US PGA Tour card for next season after missing the cut at the Wyndham Championship.

Three-time major champion Padraig Harrington missed the cut on Friday at the Wyndham Championship, losing his US PGA Tour card for next season.

The Irishman was four-over par after two rounds at Sedgefield Country Club, well outside the projected cut line of two-under with the second round winding down.

Harrington, won British Open titles in 2007 and 2008 and the PGA Championship in 2008 - but that PGA triumph was his last on the US Tour.

He is now will now head back to Europe, where a start in the Italian Open in two weeks seemed likely.

He can use his one-time exemption for being in the top 50 on the career money list to maintain his playing privileges on the PGA Tour next year, but indicated he would instead seek sponsor exemptions later this year for some of the lower-key events that open the 2014-15 season.

"My expectations were very high this week, so this is disappointing," Harrington said after posting two rounds of two-over 72. "My expectations were very, very high. I just can't get out of my own way.

"Such is life. I'm certainly working on some good things. That's maybe why my expectations were so high. It will probably happen when I least expect it."
