Ryan Harris has been reprimanded by Cricket Australia in relation to tweets he sent in the aftermath of Brisbane Heat batsman Alex Ross's controversial obstructing the field dismissal on Wednesday night.

The former Australian quick was among many to voice their disapproval of the dismissal in the Heat's Big Bash clash with Hobart, calling it "an absolutely disgraceful decision by the umpires" and "very, very embarrassing" on Twitter.

Harris, who accepted a suspended $3000 fine, is now employed by CA as high performance coach and is currently coaching the Australian under-19 side at the World Cup in New Zealand.

Ross was the first player in the seven-season life of the Big Bash to be given out in the peculiar manner as his side chased the Hurricanes' 180 at the Gabba.

The batsman was struck by a return throw when scampering home for a second run, with the ball deflecting onto the stumps as he made his ground.

Hobart first appealed for a run-out, but then asked the umpires to check if Ross had obstructed the field when replays showed he had changed his line.

While Ross on Thursday insisted he had done so to protect himself, the third umpire deemed his re-route was a deliberate move to obstruct the wicketkeeper and sent him on his way.

Heat captain Brendon McCullum criticised counterpart George Bailey post-game for acting outside the spirit of the game in continuing the appeal.

But the decision was endorsed by CA after a review on Thursday, with Harris on Friday penalised under the governing body's code of conduct for "public or media comment that is detrimental to the interests of cricket".

Current players Glenn Maxwell, Andrew Tye, Chris Lynn, Michael Hogan and Adam Zampa, as well as fellow retired quick Jason Gillespie joined Harris in their derision of the decision on social media.

However only Harris, a former Heat player and coach, has been sanctioned.

The suspended fine is subject to Harris not being found guilty of any further code of conduct breach for a period of two years.
