Harris preparing for lengthy jail sentence

Sexual predator Rolf Harris, who has been found guilty on 12 counts of indecent assault, could be jailed for a decade.

Rolf Harris could be sent to jail for a decade when he is sentenced in a London court for indecently assaulting four girls in the UK.

The 84-year-old will be sentenced on Friday at Southwark Crown Court, where he was convicted of 12 indecent assault charges on Monday.

Harris's youngest victim was just seven or eight years old when she was attacked in the late 1960s at a community centre near Portsmouth.

She'd gone on stage to get the performer's autograph, but was "aggressively and forcefully" groped between her legs, the victim told the court in mid-May.

Harris is the second person to be convicted under Operation Yewtree, which was set up in the wake of the Jimmy Savile scandal.

Publicist Max Clifford in May was jailed for eight years for indecently assaulting four young women between 1977 and 1984.

Former detective turned investigative journalist Mark Williams-Thomas played a key role in exposing Savile's crime through his 2012 Exposure documentary.

Williams-Thomas on Thursday tweeted a link to the sentencing remarks in the Clifford case with the comment "a useful guidance".

After Harris was found guilty, the journalist - who was in court during the Australian's eight-week trial - said the fact one of Harris's victims was so young was an aggravating factor.

"Yes, he's an old man, but I expect he's probably going to receive a sentence somewhere around 10 years," Williams-Thomas told the ABC.

"He came here as a man who was completely defiant. He didn't accept any of the charges against him."

The jury in the Harris trial was unanimous when finding the Australian guilty of 12 indecent assaults against four girls between 1968 and 1986.

Each count carries a maximum penalty of two years in jail.

In the past few days, Harris has been spotted getting his affairs in order at his home in Bray, west of London.

Justice Nigel Sweeney on Monday made it clear the 84-year-old can expect to go to jail.

"Given the conviction on all 12 counts, it's inevitable that the type of sentence uppermost in the court's mind is a custodial sentence," the judge said.

Justice Sweeney will begin sentencing Harris at 10am local time (1900 AEST) on Friday.
