Harsh lessons drive AFL Eagles

West Coast will start as underdogs in their elimination final against Port Adelaide on September 9.

West Coast coach Adam Simpson says his team learnt some harsh lessons from last year's finals exit, and he hopes that experience will help in the upcoming elimination final against Port Adelaide.

The Eagles were bundled out of last year's finals race at the first hurdle by the underdog Western Bulldogs, who went on to win the flag.

West Coast will start as rank underdogs themselves against Port Adelaide, and Simpson hopes his team can spring a surprise.
