Midfielder Hamish Hartlett has been elevated to vice-captain of Port Adelaide after a landmark vote at the AFL club.

For the first time, the Power's leadership group was decided by a vote of all players, coaches and administration staff - who previously didn't vote.

Hartlett becomes a sole vice-captain, replacing Brad Ebert and Matthew Lobbe who jointly held the role last year, while Travis Boak will be captain for a fourth consecutive season.

Boak heads an eight-man leadership group with Hartlett, Ebert, Lobbe, Tom Jonas, Ollie Wines and newcomers Jack Hombsch and Justin Westhoff.

Defender Jackson Trengove was overlooked for the group despite featuring in the leadership core in past seasons.

Hartlett, 25, last October signed a contract extension to remain at Port until 2021.

"To be seen as the type of person worthy of vice-captaincy is something I'm very proud of," Hartlett told Port's website.

"I think every leader brings a different dynamic to the leadership group.

"And first and foremost, from my perspective, a leader needs to set the right standards in the way they train, and away from the club as well."
