The Harvard University eight have beaten hosts Waikato University in rowing's Great Race in Hamilton to avenge their contentious loss of a year ago.
Harvard, with New Zealander James O'Connor in their boat, made a great start and controlled the 3.85km upstream contest on the Waikato River.
Waikato had looked like they would come home second, but were pipped by the other crew in the contest, England's Cambridge University, who produced a fast finish.
Last year, Waikato and Harvard oars clashed and Waikato's Richard Power fell in the water, leading to the race being restarted from that spot, a move Harvard were unhappy about.
In the women's event, Waikato University, with under-23 world champion lightweight double sculler Jackie Kiddle in their team, came home ahead of Sydney University and Melbourne University.
