Hathurusinghe named Bangladesh coach

Sydney Thunder and NSW assistant coach Chandika Hathurusinghe has accepted an offer to take the reins of Bangladesh's national cricket team.

Sydney Thunder coach Chandika Hathurusinghe has accepted an offer to take the reins of Bangladesh's national cricket team.

The 45-year-old Sri Lankan, who took charge of the Thunder last season and was also the NSW assistant coach, replaces Shane Jurgensen.

The Australian quit last month after a disappointing World T20 tournament where his team won just two out of seven matches, including a loss to Hong Kong.

"Obviously, we are sorry to lose someone of Chandika's ability, but it is a great opportunity for him and a great recognition of his skills and personal qualities," Cricket NSW CEO Andrew Jones said in a statement.

"He has done an outstanding job with both the NSW Blues and the Thunder."

Bangladesh host India in three one-dayers in June followed by a tour of the West Indies in August and September.
