Hawthorn stalwart Shaun Burgoyne is being urged to extend his AFL career next season by coach Alastair Clarkson.
Burgoyne turned in another stellar display on Thursday night, helping Hawthorn shock ladder leaders Adelaide by 14 points.
The 332-gamer kicked the match-sealing goal and another in a slick 26-disposal performance which again leaves Clarkson in awe.
Clarkson recruited Burgoyne from Port Adelaide in 2010, hoping for three years out of his worrisome knees.
"I said to him, 'Unless we get three years out of you Shaun, you're better off staying at Port'," Clarkson said after the win over the Crows.
"I think he's up to seven or eight - I forget the number - but I hope it just keeps on going because he's a ripper.
"He's a great role model for his teammates and our footy club and he doesn't look like he's slowing down."
Clarkson said the 34-year-old would make a call on his future at the end of the season, as would fellow veterans Luke Hodge and Josh Gibson.
"We sit down with all our guys that have been such decorated servants with our footy club - they deserve that opportunity to try to control their futures," Clarkson said.
"That is what happened with (Sam Mitchell and Jordan Lewis) at the end of last year.
"And we will do the same with Hodgey and Gibbo and Shaun and they will make decisions together with the footy club at the end of the year and what is best both for their careers forward and also our footy club.
"But right at the present, (Burgoyne) is playing such good footy, I would love to see him keep going."
