Hawthorn have confirmed Luke Hodge wants to continue his decorated AFL career with Brisbane next year.
The 33-year-old announced his intention to retire at the end of the season in July and finished with 305 games and four premierships to his name.
But Hodge is set to join the Lions at the urging of coach Chris Fagan, the pair sharing a strong relationship from Fagan's time with the Hawks.
Brisbane and Hawthorn must now work out how best to fulfil Hodge's request, which could come via the AFL's trade period or free agency.
Hodge will continue his career with the blessing of Hawks four-time premiership coach Alastair Clarkson.
"Luke has been an incredible servant of Hawthorn Football Club and we will support him and his family in the next step of their journey," Clarkson said.
"We respect Luke's decision to take up this new opportunity presented by the Lions and understand the personal development opportunities it provides.
"We look forward to celebrating Luke's decorated career in the brown and gold at the Peter Crimmins Medal on Saturday night."
Hodge pulled out of the lap of honour for retired players at the AFL grand final as speculation of a retirement backflip swirled.
