Adelaide have nominated Ben Jarman, the son of AFL legend Darren Jarman, as a father-son selection in this year's draft but Hawthorn have elected not to follow suit.
The Hawks' decision to pass on the silky small forward came as Collingwood nominated both Josh Daicos and Callum Brown - the sons of Magpies royalty Peter Daicos and Gavin Brown - at Monday's deadline.
Jarman is considered one of the most promising players in the draft and was eligible to play with either Hawthorn or Adelaide but the Hawks' busy trade period left them with pick No.88 as their first selection.
It is the latest entry-level pick a club has ever taken to the draft, leaving the Hawks will little room to manoeuvre.
"Due to the lateness of our picks in the 2016 national draft, which at this stage carry no points, we felt we could not commit to Ben," Hawks list manager Graham Wright said.
"We will still consider Ben like every other player when we have our selections in the national and rookie drafts."
Teams are permitted to nominate a player as a father-son selection if their father played at least 100 games with that club and the nomination allows them to match rival bids if they have the required number of draft points.
Adelaide list manager Justin Reid said there were no guarantees the Crows would match an early bid for the talented Jarman.
"We will be true to our talent order and there is still plenty of work to be done between now and the national draft (on November 25)," he said.
"We will see how the draft selections fall compared to our list of available talent."
Elsewhere, Geelong nominated midfielder Sam Simpson, the son of 114-gamer Sean Simpson.
West Coast earlier nominated Jake Waterman, the son of two-time premiership player Chris Waterman.
He follows the lead of older brother Alec, who spent two seasons on West Coast's list but struggled after contracting glandular fever and was delisted last month.
