Hawks rally around Ratten

Brett Ratten has been told by Hawthorn to take as long as he needs away from the club to grieve for his son Cooper, who died in a car crash on Sunday.

Hawthorn have given assistant coach Brett Ratten indefinite leave from the AFL club as he deals with the tragic death of his son Cooper.

The 16-year-old was killed in a car crash early on Sunday morning.

Hawks forward Cyril Rioli said players and coaches were united in their grief for Ratten, who has been told to take as long as he needs to grieve.

In Ratten's absence, Hawthorn's development academy head Damian Caroll will fill in for the stoppages coach.
