New Gold Coast Titans coach Garth Brennan says he is determined to help NRL star Jarryd Hayne get back to his "glory days".
Brennan defended NSW centre Hayne's quiet 2017 at the Gold Coast, saying it was unfair to blame the ex-NFL player for the Titans' second-last position on the ladder.
Brennan, a self-confessed Hayne fan believes the two time Dally M Medallist's best is yet to come.
"I am a fan. When he is on there are not too many better sights in the game," Brennan told Sky Sports Radio.
"I am determined to get him back to where he was in those glory days.
"There were glimpses in Origin for NSW.
"It is just about getting him happy and consistent and who knows where that ends up... I think there is a lot of football still left in Jarryd."
Hayne - 30 and off contract next year - appeared to be facing another career crossroads after the Titans' woeful 2017 campaign.
Apart from their on-field disappointment, the Gold Coast were also reeling from coach Neil Henry's sacking in August after he reportedly fell out with Hayne.
Brennan said Hayne will be given every chance to earn a new contract before his 2018 $1.2 million-deal expires.
"You saw on the back end of 2016 he was a superstar again. The Plane was back and he got the Titans into the finals," Brennan said.
"But last season (2017) they had some injuries across the board and at the end of the day we play a team sport.
"It is not just one individual. Jarryd is not out there all by himself.
"I think it is unfair to lump what happened last season at the Titans on Jarryd."
Brennan - who signed a three-year Titans deal from 2018 - will monitor Hayne during Fiji's Rugby League World Cup campaign starting this weekend.
He will start meeting Titans players on November 3 before pre-season training begins.
