Jarryd Hayne is keen to remain at five-eighth for the remainder of the season for Parramatta after starring in the Eels' 26-22 win over fellow strugglers the Wests Tigers on Friday.
The NSW star returned to action for the first time since June 7 after recovering from a hamstring injury and inspired his side to a first victory in 10 matches.
Eels coach Ricky Stuart revealed it was Hayne's decision to move into the halves and the 25-year-old is likely to stay there against Brisbane next week after Jake Mullaney impressed at fullback.
"He said he was going to fix the world if I put him to five-eighth and he really did," Stuart said.
"He told me thought he would be more effective for the team at six. I've always said Jarryd knows his footy and if he comes to me with sort of opinions I am silly if I don't look it.
"I think Jake Mullaney played very well because of the effect of Jarryd at six and that is what good players can do - make players around them player better."
Hayne admitted his preferred position is still fullback but he said he made the decision as he felt it was for the good of the team to play at second receiver.
"Credit needs to go with 'Stick' (Stuart) for trusting me," Hayne said.
"I have done a lot of training with Jake and I know what he is capable of.
"I made the decision because of where we are on the ladder.
"My favourite position is fullback but I felt we were not executing plays deep in teams' territory and I felt I could put a bit of crisp on that.
"Knowing what Jakey can do I took the risk and was quite vocal to Stick about it and it was that he took my opinion and it paid off tonight."
Stuart said the decision was another example of how far Hayne had come in terms of his development since being appointed co-captain earlier this year.
"I said before Origin that he had come a long way this year through his maturity," Stuart said.
"He didn't miss a session and I put that down to him getting back to No.1 for NSW.
"He is a leader and that shows how much of a leader he is."
