Hayne staying at centre for Titans

Gold Coast star Jarryd Hayne will stay at centre for Saturday's NRL clash with Melbourne, with coach Neil Henry adamant it's the best fit for the Titans.

Jarryd Hayne will remain at centre for Gold Coast this weekend against Melbourne in a move coach Neil Henry says is the best fit for the Titans.

Hayne moved from fullback to left centre for the Titans' 38-8 demolition of Newcastle last round, scoring two tries in the big win at CBUS Super Stadium.

That switch means Tyrone Roberts will continue in the No.1 jersey for Saturday's clash at Suncorp Stadium against the Storm.

With Roberts, Hayne, halfback Ash Taylor and five-eighth Kane Elgey all in the Titans' backline, there have been some claiming it's a case of too many cooks in the kitchen.

Taylor has notably clashed with Hayne on occasion this season amid concern the young half is struggling to impose his authority in the 29-year-old's presence.

Henry however sees no issue with Hayne's role.

"Jarryd's quite happy to take on that role on that left edge," Henry said.

"As you saw in the last game against the Knights, Jarryd popped up on the right-hand side of the field too a couple of times in attack and he scored a try on that side as well.

"It suits the team at the moment."

Hayne has made an impressive return for the Titans from an early season ankle injury, helping the team to victories over the Knights and a gutsy win over premiers Cronulla the week before.

The ex-NFL star wouldn't contemplate a spot for either NSW City or Fiji in last weekend's representative fixtures as he tries to improve his conditioning ahead of the May 31 State of Origin opener.

Hayne last played for the Blues in 2014 when he inspired NSW to a series win over Queensland, ending the Maroons' eight-year winning streak.

Henry says NSW coach Laurie Daley has to find a spot for Hayne if the superstar stays fit.

"He hasn't let anyone down on that stage and I think if he can build into a couple of performances before the team's picked, I think he'll be right there and Laurie will use him," Henry said.
