Hayne wants to meet with NFL officials

Representatives of Jarryd Hayne have contacted NFL officials about a meeting as he begins his attempts to make it in the US.

Jarryd Hayne has reached out to the NFL to help him in his bold bid to put on a helmet and pads and play in its multi-billion dollar league.

The NFL has confirmed its executives may meet with the former Parramatta NRL star and help him as he attempts to earn a contract with one of its 32 teams.

"We have been contacted by associates of Hayne but have not yet arranged any meetings for him at this point," an NFL spokesman told AAP on Monday.

The NFL is America's most popular sport, with three of last week's top four shows in the TV ratings NFL broadcasts.

But, in Australia the NFL has lagged behind baseball and basketball in pursuing fans.

The first game of the 2014 Major League Baseball season was played at the Sydney Cricket Ground between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Arizona Diamondbacks.

And Australians are the top subscribers of the NBA's international League Pass online TV service, which allows fans to watch every NBA game live.

The 26-year-old, highly-marketable Hayne will be a powerful public relations weapon in Australia for the NFL if he earns a contract with a team.

Hayne, who touched down in Los Angeles on Sunday night, will spend the next few weeks shedding weight from his bulked up NRL body and adding speed with sprint training.

He also plans to sign with a US agent.

Hayne may do individual workouts with clubs, or a combine style day could be set up where NFL scouts would be invited to watch him go through a battery of speed, agility and strength tests.

Hayne has refused to discuss reports about potential NFL teams showing interest, repeatedly saying his focus was to do the work to give him the best shot at earning a contract.

"I'm not here for the touristy stuff," Hayne said after landing at LA International Airport.

"I'm here to train and get my body right."
