Hazlewood off field at Gabba

Rookie quick Josh Hazlewood has been forced from the field late on day one of the second Test against India at the Gabba.

Test debutant Josh Hazlewood has been forced from the field late on the opening day of the second Test against India at the Gabba.

Australia's bowling stocks are heavily depleted after Hazlewood (2-44) joined the growing injury list when he failed to finish his 16th over.

Hazlewood, 23, grabbed his legs and appeared distressed when he called for support staff after the first delivery of the over.

Team officials are yet to confirm Hazlewood's injury but the speedster was treated for cramp earlier on a tough first day for new Australian Test captain Steve Smith.

It was a nightmare scenario for Smith who had earlier lost allrounder Mitch Marsh (hamstring).

Left arm quick Mitchell Starc also battled the scorching Gabba heat, at one stage leaving the field for treatment.

And strike weapon Mitchell Johnson is nursing a finger ligament ailment.
