Heat policy in force for AFL matches

The league's heat policy will be enacted for AFL pre-season matches in Western Australia and Queensland.

NAB Challenge matches to be played in Perth and the Gold Coast this weekend will have longer breaks due to forecast hot weather.

Fremantle's match with Geelong on Saturday and Brisbane's meeting with GWS Giants at Metricon the following day will be played under the adapted rules of the AFL's heat policy.

A third match, West Coast v Essendon on Sunday, is also likely to have the heat policy enforced, with a decision to be made on Saturday.

Extended breaks allow teams to hold quarter-time and three-quarter-time huddles in the rooms.

Competing sides will be able to play with benches of eight players and without interchange cap restrictions.

Perth is forecast to hit 32 degrees on Saturday and 33 on Sunday. The Gold Coast is set for 30 degrees on Sunday.
