Long-hitting Australian Scott Hend fired a second round three-under par 68 to remain in contention at the European Tour's KLM Open.

Hend is seven-under-par for the tournament and three back from leader, Austrian, Bernd Wiesberger at the halfway mark.

The Aussie blotted his card with bogeys at the second and uncharacteristically at the par-five 15th hole to go along with his four birdies as he struggled for control of the tee all day.

Hend his just six of 13 fairways throughout the round but consistently scrambled to post a good score.

Wiesberger had similar problems off the tee but still managed a second consecutive five-under 66 to hold onto the lead from a host of players at nine-under including hometown star Joost Luiten and England's Mark Foster.

The Austrian confident if his putting picks up he can hold on for two more rounds.

"I've been playing alright, I've just not had breaks going for me," Wiesberger said.

"I've not had a good, solid week on the greens.

"The long game has been steady but it feeds into a whole atmosphere if you can't take advantage of that. So far I've been really taking advantage of my chances and having a great time out there.

"It was good to finally hole a couple of putts and get a score."

Marcus Fraser is the other Aussie to make the weekend after shooting a second round 68 to be one-under for the tournament.

Brett Rumford, Richard Green, Terry Pilkadaris, Jason Scrivener, Andrew Dodt and Nathan holman all missed the cut.
