Henry won't comment on Hayne drama

Neil Henry has refused to elaborate on reports Gold Coast star Jarryd Hayne was fined for missing a pre-season training session.

Gold Coast coach Neil Henry has refused to comment on claims Jarryd Hayne was fined for missing a pre-season training session, describing the story as "old news".

Henry insisted the NRL club's superstar recruit has not been a distraction behind the scenes and walked out of a press conference on Tuesday after repeated questions surrounding Hayne and his social media use.

"I'm not going to say anything on the Hayne stuff... That's the end of that conversation, we've addressed it and that's it, we're moving on," Henry told reporters.

"We talked about it, it's old news and if you let it be a distraction, it'll distract you.

"We'll move on and get on with this game."

Hayne tweeted "Loose lips sinks ships!" on Sunday night after reports emerged the 29-year-old was fined by his teammates over the summer because of his poor training habits.

Attempting to clarify the situation, Hayne said he had permission from one of the team's captains to skip a session and fly to Sydney for treatment on an injury but was fined when Henry found out.

According to Channel 7, Titans players are unhappy at the suggestion from Hayne that someone at the club leaked the information to the media.

Henry - who defended Hayne after a patchy performance in the Titans' 32-18 defeat to the Sydney Roosters in Saturday's season opener - said he still had the faith of the coaching staff to produce his best football.

"It's up to all players to play to the best of their ability and he's a quality player," he said.

"I expect him to play good footy as I expect other players to play good footy.

"Any other comments about anything (else) are in-house."

Henry said Hayne, who battled knee issues throughout pre-season, could be ready to play a full 80 minutes at fullback as early as Saturday's clash away to the Newcastle Knights.
