A high-tech glass manufacturing hub in Adelaide is teaming up physics and photonics researchers with a global medical equipment company to produce new health products.
The hub, announced on Thursday, is a collaboration between the University of Adelaide and Trajan Scientific and Medical.
It will be supported by $346,000 in funding from the state government.
Melbourne-based Trajan develops products that improve testing quality in laboratories to enable more accurate diagnoses.
University of Adelaide deputy vice chancellor of research, Mike Brooks, says the hub will help turn research in photonics - the science of light - into commercial products for the health industry.
"To be able to ensure our work is applied to real world situations is a hugely exciting outcome and it will cement our position as a global leader in light, glass and optical fibre research," he said.
